Westmoreland was originally started in California in 1959. Walter Pidgeon, the actor, was its owner and spokesperson at that time. It was a replacement for the traditional wrought iron fence named Walter Pidgeon Estate Fence. The fence was distributed and sold by a catalog store named Sears & Roebuck, until its sale in 1964. In 1964, the fence company was purchased and moved to Philadelphia. The purchasing company was named Westmoreland Metal Manufacturing Company located in Philadelphia, PA.
Westmoreland Metal Manufacturing Company was a company that manufactured products made from tubular steel, round and square (patio furniture, school furniture, etc.) The product was a perfect fit and renamed Westmoreland Metal Products.
Unfortunately, several years later, Westmoreland Metal Products filed for bankruptcy in 1967-1968. At that time the company’s products were being sold off, and that was when William O’Sullivan, Sr., along with an investor, took over the company. The company and products were renamed Westmoreland Tubular Products.
Westmoreland Tubular Products became readily used by the New York/New Jersey Port Authorities, United States Department of Interior as well as with other municipal projects throughout the Midwest and eastern cities.
Westmoreland introduced powder coating to its products in 1978, being the first fence product using powder coating.
Westmoreland was sold to Mr. Raymond Longstreath 17 years ago as the company suffered family issues and was renamed Westmoreland II. Today it currently provides customers with exceptional high-quality products with years of durability performance.
